An Awesome State Park Visit

Driving through the state of Maine, we stopped at a few Maine hotels to pick up brochures and information on area attractions. At the Ledges By The Bay, we met the manager who was very helpful in pointing out some of the top area sightseeing attractions. She recommended that we definitely visit Camden Hills State Park in Camden. We were so happy to have gotten the recommendation to go to Camden Hills State Park.  It is huge at 5,500 acres.  They have 30 miles of hiking trails, which is exactly what we were looking for.  Once you get high enough you will find an awesome view of the town, the harbor, the bay, and the surrounding mountains.  The scenery is just beautiful.  Of course, we trekked the road to reach the top of Mount Battie.  Next time we will stay longer and take advantage of the campground facilities.

20 years after Mrs Thatcher broke governmental territory  by being appointed  the first ever Prime Minister the charge that the vestibules of Westminster are still a masculine reigned hall  ring just as forte as ever! So, Brighton and Hove’s all female  short list of Parliamentary nominees generates some boost to a prospective future switch of base in the sex balance in the political power arena .

Being cited in The Argus , Fawcett Society chief executive Ceri Goddard said: “If all the candidates are women that is cause for celebration but also concern that it has taken until 2009, whereas all-male elections are still the norm.

“The voters if Brighton can be pleased that whom ever they elect they will be a step closer to closing the gender gap in parliament where currently less than 20% of our MP’s are women – less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda.”

‘Less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda……… ‘ – personally that particular statement left me slightly flurried about the state of our governmental arena and interested as to the reasons for male mastery above and beyond the historic precedence that men should have it completely their own way – and its a whole Pandoras box of discourse  that is healthiest left for a different time .

But my function here today is as – as always – to fly the flag for Brighton and Hove and attest how progressive intending and politically sensible our town is, and having  a ratio of men to women in parliament  more representative of the population, is in my opinion, a pace in the true direction!

What is the Best Age for Teaching Kids a New Language?

Although we only speak English at home, both my husband and I have spent some time learning other languages. We think it would be good to have our children make this effort as well. Can anyone tell me what age is best for teaching kids a new language? My husband is working for a company that has offices in Germany, and might eventually have to spend some time posted there, so we are thinking it would be good if the kids learn German so they will be able to communicate at least a little bit if we do end up getting transferred there.
