He may have to work in a variety of settings. These range from local authorities to environmental charities, educational institutions, and national parks. The environmental professional is generally responsible for promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development. This may be done through visiting schools and working on in-school projects. The environmental professional works with different businesses and community groups, giving talks, producing educational resources and websites, and leading guided nature walks. The environmental professional is also responsible for promoting sustainability and ‘green business’ schemes to local businesses. He is also responsible for recruiting, training, supervising and supporting volunteer groups. The environmental professional generates income through fundraising activities; submitting funding bids etc. Applicants with a degree or HND are preferred and candidates without either would require substantial experience to gain entry. Relevant subjects include environmental science (physical), environmental science (biological), and geography
